How to Stay Cool When Your Air Conditioning is Out

In this article, our team will provide a few tips for staying cool when your air conditioning is out.

  • Close Blinds – When your air conditioning system isn’t working, we recommend closing your blinds and curtains. This blocks out the sun and prevents your home from taking on so much heat.
  • Stay Hydrated – In addition, you should drink plenty of water throughout the day, as staying hydrated helps your body stay cool. Until our team gets your air conditioning working again, your body will need to sweat to regulate your internal temperature, and you’ll need to drink water to replenish the moisture you are losing through your skin. As sweat evaporates off your skin, it carries heat with it, which creates the cooling effect you need.
  • Use Cold Compresses – A third step you can take to cool off when your air conditioning system isn’t working is to apply cool compresses to your skin. Run washcloths under cold water, then apply one to the back of your neck and rub another on the insides of your wrists. The blood vessels are close to the surface of your skin in these areas, and the compresses will help cool off your blood to cool down the rest of your body. You can also use alcohol wipes to create the same effect, as the alcohol will evaporate quickly, taking heat away from your skin.
